I am now part of the project VAST: Values Across Space & Time, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020, an international project of which the Institute for the Study of Literature and Tradition (NOVA FCSH) is one of the partners.
The project aims to study the transformation of moral values across space and time, focusing on the “core European values considered fundamental for the formation of sustainable communities and enabling citizens to live well together, such as: freedom, democracy, equality, tolerance, dialogue, human dignity, the rule of law.” I am part of the team that examines the past of values in narratives expressed in natural language – in our case, in 19th century fairy tales. My participation in this project started recently and the investigation period is quite brief, but just the idea of dealing with the topic of traditional stories and their “evolution” is super exciting!!!
